Working Towards Empowering Vulnerable Communities

At Rights Organization for Advocacy and Development (ROAD), we are dedicated to building resilience and improving livelihoods in Kenya and the Horn of Africa. Our sustainable development initiatives empower marginalized communities to create lasting change.

We focus on high-impact interventions across multiple sectors to address the most pressing needs of vulnerable populations in arid and semi-arid regions.

  1. Good Governance, Civic Engagement and prevention of violent extremism
  2. Education
  3. Health
  4. Food Security and Livelihoods
  5. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
  6. Climate Change Adaptation and Natural Resource Management
  7. Institutional Strengthening

Our Rights-Based Approach to Development

As our name suggests, we approach development from a rights-based perspective. We believe that all human beings are entitled, without discrimination, to their fundamental human rights - civil, political, social, and cultural. Access to quality and affordable water, sanitation, health services, food, education and other basic needs are fundamental human rights for all.

These rights are recognized in all the key international human rights instruments such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights; the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; and the African Charter on Human and People's Rights. Kenya and the countries in the Horn of Africa are signatories to, and are bound by, these human rights instruments.
